| KJ Motorsports Update #22 Race #32 | ||
| By Kenny Johnson Date: 10-9-07 This past weekend we got to go to Eldora Speedway, a track that I have been to many times to spectate, but never to race. I always thought I would love it and I was right. They had 117 cars for the UMP Nationals. They did group qualifying which I felt was a good thing. We set fast time in our group, but we also set 6th fastest time out of 117 cars. They invert the top 4 of each heat, so we started 4th. We found out in the heat that our car was too tight. The issue was that in traffic I could not go into the corners as hard as I could in qualifying and it was tough for me to pass, so we finished 4th. This put us in a consi starting 4th and they were taking the top 2. We jumped into 2nd early, but the 3rd place car pulled an Eldora slide job on me and got his car sideways in front of me. Our right front tire made contact with his left rear tire and our tire climbed over his left rear and then we got hit in the rear. Needless to say we were sitting there with 2 flat tires and a broken right rear coilover mount. We got drug back to the pits and we learned we were in the show on a provisional for one of the fastest qualifiers not to make it. So we all thrashed to get the car back together. We didn’t have time to fix the shock mount, so we just clamped up the right rear and moved the coilover to the back. It wasn’t the ideal set up, but it allowed us to race. We started 28th and finished 17th. It was definitely a great time and a good experience. Dad has his first check up with his cardiologist this week. He seems to still be progressing everyday. I’m guessing it won’t be much longer until he’s behind the wheel making his rounds! Our next race is at K-C Speedway for the Dirt Track World Championship. We race on Thursday the 18th and run our feature on Saturday the 20th. This weekend I will be at Skyline Speedway driving Bub Crum’s late model. Hope to see you there! Remember!
